If Daddy Gets Elected President, You Can Get a Puppy Too
Vintage Girl is quite taken with the Obama girls. She was amazed by their bravery when they took the stage in Grant Park on election night, since she herself experienced a bit of stage fright at Carnegie Hall the John Hay Elementary kindergarten chorus concert last year.
And she is, of course, very excited about the famously promised puppy.
I am not a dog person. Even if I were a dog person, I could never unleash (so to speak) the horror of a puppy on my aging cat, whose heart would simply stop at first glance.
So unless Vintage Daddy has secret political ambitions, we will remain dog-free and live vicariously through the First Family, at least for now.

Hi Ann – What a cute post. Needless to say, the Obama girls will probably have someone to bath and feed their puppy, not to mention, pick up the poop.

@Barbara
Of course my Dear Child isn’t ever going to be living in the White House (well, unless she marries an native-born American with lots of political ambition, G-d forbid) but *she* still has somebody to bath, feed, walk, groom and pick up after Dog. LOL

Ditto. We rescued an old and decripit dog from certain death, and our cat ran away.
Go figure.

I love my little puppy dog, and whilst our cats don’t like her, they haven’t run away yet!

Cat person here, too, so we’d have to have a First Kitty if we were in the WH. It will be fun to watch young kids in the White House, puppy and all!

I love the bribery behind the promise… Yet, it seems sincere, and genuine, and certainly is age-appropriate for the Obama girls. It’s somehow a bribe, that doesn’t feel like a bribe at all!

At my house we have two dogs and one cat. My cat might think he is a dog though because when my mom lets the dogs out in the morning to go to the bathroom (I am away at college when I am home I do take the dogs out and feed them and stuff.) they run downstairs from the bedroom to go outside our back door and the cat runs (slower) behind them. He likes to go outside with them.

Cracking up at your Carnegie Hall/Elementary School reference! Hope Vintage Girl can use the Obama girls to help her conquer that stage fright!

Great bargain!
I have a cat who fetches. His favorite fetching toy is the plastic ring from the milk container.

I’m kind of in the same spot. Not really a dog person (never gave it a try) but I do want a dog for the kids. But I have aging cats. And my story is “when they are gone, we’ll get a dog” but then my one cat dies and I replace her with a younger, still adult cat so my oldest won’t get lonely. And I see this cycle continuing through the years. Maybe I’m just not cut out for a dog.

That is so cute!! I’m definitely a cat person, but wouldn’t say no to a dog that’s small enough to be a cat.

My dogs and cats love each other. In fact, our two wildest, the youngest dog and our kitten, regularly sleep next to each other at the foot of my middle son’s bed.

Hi Everyone, and thanks for all the comments! Sounds like we have a good mix of dog, cat and dog/cat people here. Luckily for me, Vintage Girl is still a bit afraid of dogs, even though she says she’d like to have one, so I guess I and my geriatric cat are safe for now!
