Show & Tell: I Like Having “Simple Hair”
Today I went to Hairmasters and got a $15 haircut. Since my hours at work have been drastically reduced, I just can’t justify spending $50 or more on my hair.

I was talking to someone later in the day who described her hair as “simple hair” and I liked the sound of that. I used to wear my hair very short which required more frequent haircuts and – I believe – a more skilled stylist. Now, with this longer hair that is just blunt cut all around, Hairmasters suits me just fine.
I had my husband take these photos and I realized that I never see my hair from behind. It’s still quite brown in the back which surprised me; the top has gotten very very gray, and I constantly struggle with “to color or not to color”. I suspect that if I were the normal 50+ mom with kids going off to college I wouldn’t care about the gray, but when you’re 50+ with a second-grader, it’s a whole other story – and that, dear readers, is a whole other post!
Be sure to stop by Mel’s place to see what the others are showing and telling this week.

Don’t color it. It looks like it’s graying really evenly. So just go with it. Otherwise, after coloring it for 10 years you’re going to have to decide when to let it OBVIOUSLY grow out. That’s a lot more drastic.
I like your haircut too. My hair is quite long and I only get it cut once every six months or so and it suits me just fine

I share your “to color or not to color” dilemma. I don’t like the gray, but I don’t want to commit myself to coloring my hair for the next 30 years. Now, that’s an expense I’m not willing to take on! I just wish I could go immediately to the salt and pepper hair that my dad’s family has, but I’ll probably end up with the unfortunate steel gray of my mom’s family.
Nice haircut, though!

I too vote to not colour your hair! When I go to the hairdresser, they always ask me about colouring my hair, because yes I do have some white hair
, and they are always shocked when I tell them that no, I prefer mune natural..
And a lovely haircut you had!

Ooohhhh I love your new cut! It makes your hair “bounce” up. Very cute! I have simple hair in that, it doesn’t matter what’s done to it. It’s VERY curly so if it’s uneven, nobody can tell. So I can cut my own hair if I get sick of waiting for an appointment. Which is ALWAYS a bad idea…
I say don’t color your gray, as well! I think gray hair intertwined in with the other is so beautiful. Honestly.

i think it looks really great. after pretty much wearing a shower to bun look the last ten months, i would probably be horrified to see a picture of the back of my head. i dont think you should color your hair, i think it is a pretty color as it is.

Ok… I have to speak up as the voice of the ‘coloured’? I always feel great after I get my hair coloured. (I might get lynched here for saying it but) I always feel fresh and young when my greys are gone.

Its a lovely haircut! As for coloring it, to each, her own. I choose to color my hair not to cover up the white but because nature cheated me out of my red hair (I was born with red hair and it all fell out and came back in blonde).

Thanks for all the comments and compliments everyone! If I do decide to color again, I see now (from the photo) that I’ve been choosing a color that’s way too dark. (I color at home when I do which is rare).

Love the haircut. You are so correct. Longer hair can be hidden in a ponytail, if not cut properly, but that is not so with shorter hair, and hence the need to have a good hairdresser.
Colour them! Colour them! Colour them!

I am right there with you. I have been getting my hair cut at my daughter’s haircut place for years (Kazaams Cuts for Kids). It’s $14 for a cut. At 53, I don’t particularly want to start coloring my hair, but with an 11 year old, I don’t want to look like her grandmother. Luckily as a redhead, my gray makes me look blond. But eventually, I am afraid I will look washed out. Good luck to both of us!

Debbie: I’ve heard that redheads don’t really go gray, so lucky you! Hope you’ll keep visiting as a fellow “older mom”!
